Fubara Bags Appointment 

The All Progressives Congress has set up its presidential primary election committee ahead of the party’s 2027 presidential primary scheduled for May 23.

Former Senate President Pius Anyim has been appointed chairman of the presidential primary election committee.

Anyim, who also served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation under former President Goodluck Jonathan, will lead the committee overseeing the APC presidential primary process.

Prominent APC chieftain Sanusi Musa has been named secretary of the committee.

Other members of the committee include former Senate President Ken Nnamani and former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara.

The APC has also appointed governors and senior political figures as state coordinators for the exercise across the country, including Hope Uzodimma and Siminalayi Fubara.

The development was announced by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, who said the decisions were approved by the party’s National Working Committee in accordance with the party constitution and the Electoral Act.

The party confirmed that it would adopt the direct primary method for the presidential contest, allowing registered party members across Nigeria’s wards to vote for their preferred aspirants.

The APC’s presidential primary is part of preparations for the 2027 general elections, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expected to seek the APC ticket.

The announcement has generated mixed reactions among party supporters and political observers, particularly over the appointment of Governor Fubara as a state coordinator despite his recent withdrawal from the APC governorship primary in Rivers State.
