DHQ Launches Operation Clean Sweep III in Katsina After Killing of Retired General

The Defence Headquarters Joint Task Force North West has launched a new military offensive, Operation Clean Sweep III, across Matazu Local Government Area and surrounding communities in Katsina State following the abduction and death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar.
The operation, which commenced on Sunday, June 14, 2026, is aimed at tracking down and neutralising the bandits responsible for the retired officer’s kidnapping and killing, while also dismantling their wider criminal networks in the region.
“Operation Clean Sweep III has been launched to pursue and eliminate the criminals behind the abduction and death of the retired General while also destroying their support structures,” a defence statement indicated.
According to the Defence Headquarters, troops have already intensified offensive operations, including fighting patrols, intelligence-led raids, cordon-and-search missions, and clearance exercises across identified hideouts.
The statement added that significant progress has been recorded in areas such as Dikkawa Hills, Adua, Nasarawa, and Karaduwa, where several terrorist camps, logistics bases, and support structures were destroyed during the operations.
