Son Disputes Katsina Government’s Account of Late General Rabe Abubakar’s Death

Isyaka Rabe, son of the late retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar who died in bandits’ captivity, has rejected claims by the Katsina State Government that his father died from complications related to diabetes and hypertension.
He spoke in an interview with Deutsche Welle Hausa on Sunday, saying the family does not accept the official explanation of the circumstances surrounding his father’s death.
“Our father was not diabetic and did not suffer from hypertension, and we believe the cause of his death was not what has been reported,” he said.
He added that the family suspects alternative causes, including a possible snake bite or other injury, pointing to visible swelling on the deceased’s leg as seen in a video allegedly released by the abductors.
“From what we saw, his leg was swollen, and while some people think it may have been a snake bite, only God knows the true cause of his death,” he said.
Isyaka further stated that the exact circumstances of how his father’s remains were recovered remain unknown to him, adding that such questions should be directed to the authorities handling the case.
He also dismissed reports circulating on social media that his mother, who was abducted alongside his father, had been released, insisting that she is still in captivity.
“Anyone saying my mother has been released is not telling the truth, as she is still in their custody as I speak,” he said.
The retired Major-General and his wife were abducted in May while travelling through Katsina State, with his death later confirmed while still in captivity by military authorities.
He was buried on Sunday in Katsina amid renewed calls for intensified security operations to secure the release of his wife and address ongoing insecurity in the region.
