NDC lawmaker calls Oshiomhole’s claim on Peter Obi’s security record ‘fallacy’

Afam Ogene, a member of the House of Representatives, has dismissed remarks by Adams Oshiomhole comparing security conditions in Edo under his governorship to Anambra under Peter Obi’s administration as false.
Oshiomhole, in an interview on Seun Okinbaloye’s podcast, had claimed that Edo State was safer during his tenure as governor than Anambra was while Obi governed the state.
Oshiomhole governed Edo State between 2008 and 2016, while Peter Obi served as governor of Anambra from 2006 to 2014 before handing over to Willie Obiano.
Ogene, who leads the NDC caucus in the House of Representatives, described Oshiomhole’s comments as “brazen falsehood and deliberate misinformation.”
He said, “Senator Oshiomhole’s revisionist attempt to rewrite history is both laughable and insulting to Nigerians who know the facts.”
Ogene added, “The data on security under Obi’s tenure in Anambra remains public record, and no amount of political grandstanding can erase it.”
He also said, “Oshiomhole has now officially joined the growing league of self-appointed press secretaries to President Tinubu.”
The lawmaker further stated, “His trademark loquaciousness routinely puts him at odds with his own colleagues in the Senate, and he invariably ends up issuing humiliating apologies.”
Ogene said, “For the record: the Bakassi Boys operated under the four-year administration of the late Dr Chinwoke Mbadinuju.”
He added, “Oshiomhole conveniently erased Dr Chris Ngige’s three-year tenure before Obi’s assumption of office in 2006.”
Ogene continued, “The demolition of kidnappers’ dens was not introduced by Obiano, but was initiated and implemented under Obi.”
He said it was unfortunate that Oshiomhole, who governed Edo State during Obi’s tenure, would distort historical facts out of what he described as envy.
Ogene added, “While Obi was promoting civility and due process in Anambra, Oshiomhole was demolishing the houses of political opponents in Edo.”
He also said Obi received several security-related awards as governor, insisting that Oshiomhole’s claims were not supported by facts.
Ogene said the sustained attacks on Peter Obi’s political ambitions suggest he is a major factor in the 2027 presidential race.
He added that Obi has done nothing wrong by seeking to contest for the presidency and should not be targeted out of political fear or jealousy.
Ogene concluded that no “sponsored smear campaigns” would stop Obi from participating in the 2027 general elections.
