Police Arrest Man Over Fake Bandit Attack Video Circulated in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Sunday Olawale for allegedly circulating a false video on social media claiming that bandits attacked Are Ekiti in the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, adding that the suspect confessed to spreading the fake information but was unable to provide any reasonable justification for his action.
The police further clarified that there was no bandit invasion in Are Ekiti or any other part of Ekiti State, stressing that the viral video being shared online had been verified as completely false and misleading.
The statement also explained that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad tracked and arrested the suspect at the Ekute area of Ado Ekiti on allegations of cyberstalking and disseminating false information capable of causing fear and public disorder.
The Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, warned residents against engaging in the spread of fake news or unverified content on social media, noting that such actions could trigger unnecessary panic and disrupt public peace.
