Netanyahu Vows to Block Iran’s Nuclear Ambitions Despite U.S.-Iran Peace Framework

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pledged that Israel will continue efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, even after the United States and Iran announced an interim agreement aimed at reducing tensions and reopening diplomatic negotiations.
Netanyahu made the remarks shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled the framework of a peace deal, while crediting a joint U.S.-Israeli military campaign with significantly weakening Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, missile systems, and militant networks.
The Israeli leader described the military operation as the largest in Israel’s history, insisting that it had caused extensive damage to Iran’s strategic capabilities and long-term defence posture.
Although he did not directly criticise the U.S.-Iran agreement, Netanyahu emphasised that Israel would continue to make independent security decisions and would not compromise on issues it considers essential to its national survival.
He reaffirmed Israel’s position that Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, stressing that the country would take any necessary action to protect its security interests.
Netanyahu also indicated that Israeli military operations would continue in theatres such as Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria where required, as part of broader regional security objectives.
He further announced plans for about $95 billion in additional defence spending, alongside efforts to strengthen regional alliances and security partnerships.
The announcement followed more than 100 days of hostilities involving Iran, Israel, and allied forces, a situation that has raised cautious hopes for diplomatic progress while leaving major security tensions unresolved.
Analysts noted that Netanyahu’s comments highlight the growing friction between ongoing diplomatic initiatives and persistent security concerns that continue to shape Middle Eastern geopolitics.
Observers also say that differences between Washington and Jerusalem over Iran’s nuclear future are likely to remain a central issue in regional and international diplomacy in the coming months.
