Rhodes-Vivour Loses Mother
The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has announced the death of his mother, Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour (née Waboso).
Rhodes-Vivour disclosed the sad development in a statement shared on his official social media platform on Monday, where the family announced the passing of the matriarch.
The statement, signed by Olawale Rhodes-Vivour on behalf of the family, described the late Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to her family.
The family said she was “the epitome of love” and would be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, relatives and those whose lives she touched during her lifetime.
“With sadness in our hearts and gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the call to glory of Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour (née Waboso),” the family stated.
The family also prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul, adding that details of her funeral arrangements would be announced at a later date.
The death of Rhodes-Vivour’s mother comes as the politician prepares for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election, where he is set to contest on the platform of the ADC.
Rhodes-Vivour, who emerged as the ADC governorship candidate for Lagos State after securing the party’s ticket in May 2026, previously contested the 2023 Lagos governorship election under the platform of the Labour Party.
He became one of the prominent opposition figures in Lagos politics after the 2023 election, where he challenged the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The politician comes from the prominent Rhodes-Vivour family, which has played notable roles in Lagos’ legal, social and political history.
Following the announcement, condolences are expected from political leaders, party members, supporters and well-wishers across Lagos State and beyond.
The family has, however, requested privacy as it mourns the loss of their mother, while awaiting the announcement of arrangements for her final rites.
