Tinubu Congratulates UK’s Andy Burnham, Seeks Stronger Nigeria Britain Partnership

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the United Kingdom’s new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, on his assumption of office, expressing Nigeria’s readiness to deepen diplomatic and strategic cooperation with Britain under the new administration.
In a message released by the Presidency, Tinubu described the Nigeria United Kingdom relationship as longstanding and important, stressing the need for both countries to strengthen collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, security and development.
The President said Nigeria looks forward to working closely with Burnham’s government to advance shared goals and build on the historic ties that exist between both nations.
Burnham became the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister after replacing Keir Starmer, following Starmer’s resignation from office. The former Mayor of Greater Manchester was subsequently appointed Prime Minister by King Charles III after emerging as the new leader of the Labour Party.
Since taking office, Burnham has highlighted domestic priorities, including tackling the cost of living crisis, addressing homelessness and transferring more powers away from central government to local communities.
Tinubu’s congratulatory message comes as Nigeria and the UK continue to maintain close relations, with both countries cooperating in areas such as economic partnership, education, security and technology.
The President expressed confidence that the relationship between Abuja and London would continue to grow stronger under Burnham’s leadership.
The United Kingdom remains one of Nigeria’s most significant international partners, with thousands of Nigerians living, studying and working in Britain while both countries maintain strong economic and diplomatic links.
