DJ Chicken Regains Freedom After Meeting Bail Conditions, Trial Continues

Controversial Nigerian content creator and disc jockey, Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has regained his freedom from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after fulfilling the bail conditions granted by a Lagos Magistrate Court.

DJ Chicken’s lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, confirmed his release through a social media update, while human rights activist Omoyele Sowore also announced that the entertainer had reunited with his family, friends and supporters.

The content creator had been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after he was arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos State, over allegations bordering on cybercrime, breach of peace and threat to kill.

The charges followed a viral video in which DJ Chicken allegedly made threatening comments involving Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, alongside statements concerning the 2027 election.

Following public reactions, the content creator reportedly apologised and described the comments as a joke aimed at attracting attention online, but he was still arrested and prosecuted.

The court granted him bail of N1 million with two sureties in like sum after he pleaded not guilty to the charges. One of the sureties was required to be a civil servant, while the other was expected to be a community leader with landed property in Lagos State.

The court also directed the sureties to provide necessary identification and tax documents before the bail conditions could be completed.

After his release, DJ Chicken appeared in a livestream circulated online, where he expressed appreciation to his supporters and spoke about his experience in detention.

His case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, when further proceedings are expected to continue before the court.
