Ukraine Drone Strike Hits Russia’s ‘Amazon’ Warehouse

A Ukrainian drone attack has struck a logistics warehouse belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online marketplace, near Saint Petersburg, causing a major fire and injuring three people in the latest wave of attacks targeting the company’s facilities across Russia.
The incident occurred in Russia’s Leningrad region on July 24, when drones reportedly hit the Wildberries warehouse, with regional authorities confirming that the facility caught fire after the strike and emergency responders were deployed to contain the blaze.
Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko said three people were injured during the attack, while footage from the scene showed thick smoke rising from the warehouse as firefighters worked to bring the situation under control.
Wildberries, which is often compared to Amazon because of its dominant position in Russia’s e commerce market, temporarily suspended operations at two logistics sites in the region following the attack and evacuated workers from affected facilities as a safety measure.
The strike was part of a wider series of reported Ukrainian drone attacks targeting Wildberries logistics centres in different parts of Russia, including locations in Saint Petersburg, Tver and Russian occupied Crimea.
The repeated attacks have raised concerns over disruptions to Russia’s online retail supply chain, with reports indicating that several Wildberries facilities have been damaged in recent days, affecting a significant portion of the company’s logistics operations.
Ukraine has reportedly targeted Wildberries facilities because of allegations that the company’s infrastructure may support Russia’s wartime logistics network, although Moscow and Wildberries have denied such claims.
Russian authorities have condemned the strikes, while continuing investigations into the drone attacks and assessing the extent of damage caused to the warehouse and surrounding areas.
Wildberries remains one of Russia’s most important online retail platforms, serving millions of customers and supporting a large network of sellers, making attacks on its facilities a significant disruption to commercial activity in the country.
The latest incident shows the expanding nature of the Russia Ukraine war, as both sides increasingly use drones to target locations far beyond the frontline in an attempt to weaken their opponent’s military and economic capabilities.
