APM Ward 12 Councillorship Consensus Ends Inconclusive As Observer Raises Red Flag Over Imposition

The consensus process for the selection of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) councillorship candidate for Ward 12, Ibadan Southwest Local Government, has ended inconclusive as an observer who monitored the exercise said the process left much to be desired.

The observer noted that the exercise failed to hit a meeting point on consensus, as the process did not pass the test of openness and fairness expected in choosing the party’s candidate.

The observer noted that six party leaders attended the meeting, but pointed to the presence and participation of the mother of one of the aspirants, saying the development cast a shadow over the neutrality of the process.

According to the observer, allowing a close family member of one of the aspirants to play a part in deciding the party’s candidate opened a can of worms over the credibility of the exercise.

The observer maintained that the process needed to be revisited by the party leadership, stating that the outcome gave the impression of an arrangement where the die was already cast rather than a level playing field for all aspirants.

The observer therefore appealed to the party leadership to take a second look at the Ward 12 councillorship selection process in the interest of fairness, unity, and the party’s internal harmony.
