Oseni Questions Candidates Without Primary School Details

Arise Television Morning Show anchor, Rufai Oseni, has reacted to the personal particulars of presidential candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), questioning why some aspirants seeking Nigeria’s highest office did not provide details of their primary school education.
Oseni made the comment in a Facebook post on Sunday while reacting to public discussions surrounding the nomination documents submitted by candidates ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“People that can’t tell you their primary school want to be your president and Nigerians will vote them,” he wrote.
His comment followed INEC’s commencement of the public display of personal particulars, academic qualifications and other statutory documents submitted by presidential candidates.
The electoral body said the exercise was part of the legal requirement allowing members of the public to examine candidates’ nomination documents and raise objections where necessary.
The documents released by INEC showed that President Bola Tinubu, who is the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), listed his Bachelor of Science degree from Chicago State University as his educational qualification, while the sections for his primary and secondary school attendance years were entered as “0000”.
However, the nomination documents submitted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Peter Obi, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, contained educational records tracing their academic backgrounds from primary school level.
INEC explained that the publication of the documents marks the beginning of the statutory period for scrutiny of candidates’ nomination papers, during which eligible persons may challenge information contained in a candidate’s affidavit through the courts if they believe such details are inaccurate or false, as provided by the Electoral Act.
