NANS Gives Abiodun 72 Hours To Rescue Abducted Students, Fix Campus Security Crisis

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a 72 hour ultimatum to the Ogun State Government and security agencies to secure the release of abducted students and take urgent steps to address rising insecurity around tertiary institutions in the state.

The student body issued the warning following the abduction of students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, after suspected gunmen attacked a private hostel located along Paraga Road, Ipara, Remo, Ogun State.

NANS described the incident as another disturbing indication of the growing security challenges confronting students in Ogun State, warning that students should not be forced to choose between pursuing education and protecting their lives.

The association, led by its President, Akinteye Babatunde, called on the Ogun State Government, the Federal Government and relevant security agencies to intensify rescue operations and strengthen security around campuses and student communities.

NANS expressed concern that the abduction occurred only days after another security breach at D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, where an HND II student, Ahmed Sekinat, was killed during a robbery attack while others sustained injuries.

The student body said the repeated attacks had created fear among students across Ogun State, stressing that educational institutions should remain safe environments where students can focus on academic activities without threats to their lives.

Following the abduction, the Ogun State Police Command and other security agencies commenced rescue operations aimed at locating the kidnapped students and bringing them back safely.

The affected institution also suspended academic activities, including examinations, following the attack as authorities moved to assess the security situation around the campus environment.

NANS warned that failure by authorities to take decisive action within the stated timeframe could lead to further actions, including protests across the state, as students demand improved protection and accountability.

The latest development has renewed calls for stronger security measures around Nigerian tertiary institutions, with student groups insisting that campus safety must become a priority for government authorities.

The Ogun State Government and security agencies are expected to provide further updates on the rescue efforts as pressure mounts from students and concerned stakeholders over the safety of learners across the state.
