Sultan Denies Endorsing Tinubu For 2027 Re-Election

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has denied endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, describing reports linking him to any political campaign as false and misleading.

The Sultan’s media team, in a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Bashir Adefaka, dismissed the reports circulating on social media, stressing that the traditional ruler cannot openly support any candidate or political party due to his position as a father figure to all Nigerians.

The statement explained that the Sultan’s role requires him to remain neutral and provide guidance, prayers and counsel to Nigerians and political actors regardless of their affiliations.

“The attention of the Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has been drawn to a report circulating on some social media platforms, creating the impression that the Sultan has called on Nigerians to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

“Our simple response to the report is that it is not possible for the Sultan, as the father of all, to make such a statement, either publicly or in any other forum,” the statement read.

The Sultan’s media team urged Nigerians to disregard attempts to associate the monarch with any political movement, insisting that he would continue to relate with all citizens without discrimination.

“The Sultan’s doors cannot be shut against anyone who comes to him, regardless of political affiliation or persuasion. His Eminence has consistently demonstrated that he is the father of all and will continue to relate with all Nigerians without discrimination,” it added.
