Senate Threatens Hospitals With Jail Term Over Emergency Treatment

The Senate has proposed a six-month jail term, a N300,000 fine or both for hospitals that delay or refuse to treat patients in need of emergency medical attention.
The proposed legislation stipulates that hospitals must assess emergency patients within 15 minutes of arrival and begin stabilisation within 30 minutes.
The bill, which has passed its second reading, has been referred to the relevant Senate committee for further consideration.
