Fagbenro-Bibire Takes Swipe at Self-Serving Politics, Reaffirms Loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde

The Special Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Security Matters, Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire, popularly known as Bibire, has decried the growing prevalence of self-serving politics, where personal ambition takes precedence over the collective welfare and aspirations of the people.
Speaking with Polity Reporters on the recent political realignments in Oyo State, Bibire maintained that the essence of politics lies in the pursuit of the common good and the willingness to place the welfare of the people above personal considerations.
In this regard, he questioned whether politicians were still in the business of serving the people or had made personal interests the overriding concern of their political engagements.
Expressing his disappointment over the recent political realignments in the state, Bibire said he was particularly surprised that some of the decisions appeared to have little to do with the interests of the people and were instead driven by the personal calculations of those involved.
He further questioned the rationale behind anyone who had been an integral part of the present administration contemplating pitching tent with a political party whose previous administration, as validated by reality, held the good people of Oyo State in utter disdain, a disposition he argued accounted for their rejection at the polls in 2019, and which, he maintained, would continue to define the party electoral fortunes in 2027 and beyond.
In the same vein, he stressed that political disagreements and unmet expectations should never constitute sufficient grounds for turning one’s back on the people, insisting that the solemn obligation to serve the public must never be subordinated to personal ambition or sacrificed on the altar of political expediency.
He continued that public office is a position of trust and not a personal entitlement, adding that the pursuit of political power should never become an obsession at the expense of the people.
To advance this position, Bibire recounted his own political experience, disclosing that he had been an aspirant on three consecutive occasions but had never allowed his ambition to become a do-or-die affair.
He maintained that holding political office is not the ultimate measure of the contributions one can make to humanity, noting that those who genuinely stand in the gap for the people will, in the fullness of time, have their contributions etched in the sands of history.
On his political allegiance, the Special Adviser declared that his loyalty rests with God Almighty, his principal, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the good people of Oyo State.
He described Governor Makinde as a leader who stands head and shoulders above many others and reiterated his commitment to the Governor and the continued development of Oyo State.
Addressing his present assignment, Bibire said his focus remains on advancing the efforts of the Makinde administration to improve security across the state, particularly in the protection of lives and property.
This was as he pledged to sustain the gains already recorded in the area of security and ensure that the good people of Oyo State can go about their lawful activities without fear and retire to bed with both eyes closed.
