ADC Suspends Atiku, Babachir Lawal

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has taken the step of suspending former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal.

The announcement was made on Monday by the faction’s state chairman, Raji Sulaiman Zumo, who did not provide specific reasons behind the disciplinary action at that time.

This suspension comes amid growing divisions within the party, as competing factions battle for control over its national leadership.

Another faction, led by Nafiu Bala Gombe, has claimed the position of national chairman, deepening the leadership dispute within the ADC.

The ongoing leadership crisis has also drawn attention from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which is reported to have withdrawn recognition from a faction aligned with former Senate President David Mark.

This situation is adding to the instability within the ADC as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections, with ongoing divisions over legitimacy and control.
