BREAKING: Presidency Responds to Ibadan Opposition Declaration, Calls Coalition Unstable

The Presidency has dismissed the recent declaration by opposition leaders in Ibadan to field a unified presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, branding the coalition as a group of politicians “on unstable ground.”
Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, made the comments during an interview on Arise Television, responding to the opposition’s Ibadan summit.
Dare described the gathering as an assembly of “recycled politicians” – many of whom have previously held positions as ministers, governors, and long-serving political figures.
He further noted that a review of their recent leadership records reveals a lack of fresh ideas or transformative initiatives.
“They are free to field as many presidential candidates as they want. That is the beauty of democracy,” Dare remarked.
He added, “But that does not change the fact that there is a functioning government in place with measurable results.”
He stressed that the current administration remains focused on governance and delivering tangible results, noting that the actions of opposition leaders do not overshadow what he referred to as the solid performance of the Tinubu government.
The Ibadan declaration, which announced the opposition’s aim to unite behind a single candidate in 2027, continues to stir reactions from both ruling party officials and opposition figures.
Political analysts predict that this exchange signals the beginning of a heated contest as the 2027 general election approaches.
