Osifo Stanley Declares Presidential Bid, Challenges Tinubu for APC 2027 Ticket

Osifo Stanley, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced his intention to contest the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 election.
Stanley made the declaration in Abuja on Monday, setting up a potential primary challenge against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He is reportedly the first aspirant within the ruling party to openly express interest in the race, despite previous endorsements backing Tinubu as the sole candidate.
During the APC’s March convention, party governors, National Assembly members, and key stakeholders had all adopted Tinubu as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 elections.
Several state chapters, including Bauchi, Borno, Kebbi, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ekiti, and Lagos, also endorsed Tinubu.
However, Stanley made it clear that he has formally requested the party’s account details to pay the necessary nomination fees.
He emphasized that his presidential bid is “not rhetorical but operational.”
Stanley’s decision is grounded in constitutional provisions, referencing both the APC constitution and the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended).
He argued that endorsements, no matter their scale, cannot replace the formal process of a primary election.
“I believe strongly that we all have the right to enjoy our constitutionally-guaranteed rights to run,” Stanley said, stressing the importance of upholding internal democracy within the party.
