Funke Akindele Stranded at London Airport

Nollywood filmmaker Funke Akindele has called out Air Peace after passengers, including elderly travellers, were stranded at London’s Gatwick Airport for nearly 10 hours without their luggage, hotel accommodation, or clear communication from the airline.
Akindele shared her frustration on social media, demanding immediate action from the airline.
She revealed that passengers had been waiting since 6:30 AM, with no proper updates, after being told a bird strike had caused the delay.
“Air Peace, this is unacceptable. Passengers (including elderly people) have been stranded since 6:30 AM at London Gatwick Airport with no proper communication,” she wrote.
She explained that after hours of delay, they were told about the bird strike and promised hotel accommodation.
However, hours later, passengers were still sitting at baggage claim, hungry and exhausted, with no luggage.
In a follow-up post, Akindele stated that the situation had not improved by 4 PM.
“Air Peace, what is going on? Since 7 AM at London Gatwick Airport and it’s almost 4 PM — no bags, no hotel, no proper updates,” she wrote.
Air Peace responded to her first post, empathizing with the passengers and attributing the delay to factors beyond its control.
“Such actions are never intentional as we prioritise safety and operational efficiency, and while we strive for on-time departures, certain factors beyond our control can sometimes cause delays,” the airline stated.
It added that its team was working to assist affected passengers and urged them to bear with the airline.
As of the time of this report, neither Air Peace nor the passengers had confirmed whether the luggage had been released or hotel accommodation provided.
