Oyo APC Chair Confirms Direct Primaries for Guber Aspirants

Chief Moses Adeyemo, chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Oyo APC, has announced that the party will hold direct primaries for its governorship aspirants.

He made the statement while receiving members of the screening and appeal committees sent from the national secretariat at the Oke-Ado party office in Ibadan.

Adeyemo assured that the primaries would be free, fair, and transparent, with all aspirants treated equally in line with party principles and democracy.

He explained that while efforts were made to reach consensus, some positions, including the governorship ticket, would require direct primaries due to multiple aspirants.

“Where there is more than one aspirant, Abuja will send officials to conduct primaries, and the state will provide support to ensure the process runs smoothly,” Adeyemo said.

He added that both consensus and direct primaries would involve all registered party members, with voting applied where required and affirmation used for consensus.

Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had earlier confirmed that no consensus arrangement existed and encouraged all contestants to participate in the primaries.

The screening committee, chaired by former Ondo State House of Assembly Speaker Taofiq Abdulsalam, will ensure only eligible aspirants qualify to contest the primaries.

Other committee members include Kamal Sanusi, Smart Oluwole, Tunde Kolade, and Olabamiji Agunloye.

The appeal committee comprises Jibola Oduwole as chairman, with Abimbola Jack as secretary and Jelil Jimoh as a member.

Abdulfatai Buhari, senator representing Oyo North, declared his readiness for the primaries, describing the exercise as a test of competence and fairness.

He said any aspirant unwilling to face direct primaries should not expect to lead the party or secure victory in the general elections.

Buhari pledged to contribute to the party’s development by donating solar-powered lights and computers for the state secretariat.

He also donated N5 million to the party’s account and N2 million to executives, demonstrating his commitment to strengthening the APC in Oyo State.

Adeyemo praised Buhari for his contributions and for supporting the party, praying that his efforts will yield positive outcomes for APC and the people of Oyo State.
