SA Security Bibire Sensitizes Apata, Odo Ona Stakeholders On Security, Appeals For Continuous Support

The Special Adviser on Security to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro (Bibire), has continued his grassroots security awareness campaign with a town hall engagement held in Odo Ona, where he met with stakeholders from Apata and Odo-Ona on the need for vigilance, responsible information sharing, and sustained public support for security efforts across the State.

The engagement was one of a series of consultations by the Office of the Special Adviser on Security to strengthen community participation in the fight against crime and address the growing challenge of false information capable of creating fear and confusion among residents.

Addressing traditional leaders, community representatives, youth groups, market leaders, religious leaders, and other stakeholders at the meeting, Bibire conveyed Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while speaking on several measures introduced by the administration to strengthen the security architecture of Oyo State.

He noted that the government has continued to support security agencies through logistics, operational assistance, intelligence collaboration, and policies designed to improve safety across the State, adding that the results of such efforts are becoming evident in many communities.

Bibire, however, stressed that government alone cannot guarantee security without the active cooperation of the people, maintaining that the safety of every community depends largely on the willingness of residents to remain vigilant and play their part whenever security concerns arise.

He therefore urged residents to redouble their efforts by paying closer attention to happenings within their environment, looking out for one another, and promptly reporting suspicious activities before they develop into bigger security challenges.

The security expert also encouraged members of the public to make use of the State’s emergency reporting channels, particularly the 615 emergency line, whenever they observe security concerns requiring urgent attention from relevant authorities.

He cautioned against raising unnecessary alarm or circulating information that has not been properly verified, noting that inaccurate reports create avoidable tension and place additional pressure on security operations.

Speaking on the dangers of fake news, Bibire said misinformation has become one of the silent threats confronting the society because it spreads fear faster than facts and often leaves confusion in its wake.

According to him, many security scares that create panic among residents begin with unverified information passed from one person to another without any effort to confirm the true situation on ground.

He added that false reports divert the attention of security agencies from authentic emergencies, waste valuable operational resources, and make it more difficult for residents to distinguish between established threats and baseless rumours.

Bibire further stated that while citizens must never ignore suspicious movements or security concerns, they must also ensure that the information they relay is factual and communicated through the appropriate channels.

He appreciated the people of Odo Ona and Apata for their continued support for the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde and for their cooperation with security agencies working to keep the State safe.

He concluded by appealing for perpetual public support, and assured them that the government would continue to work with security agencies, community leaders, and stakeholders to preserve peace, maintain public order, and strengthen security across Oyo State.
