Alonso Axes Five Chelsea Senior Players

New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has reportedly identified five senior players who are not part of his plans for the future as he begins a major reshaping of the squad at Stamford Bridge.
According to reports, the former Bayer Leverkusen manager has informed the players that they are free to leave the club during the ongoing transfer window as he looks to build a team that matches his tactical philosophy and high-intensity style of football.
Among the players reportedly made available for transfer is Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho, who joined Chelsea from Manchester United last summer but struggled to meet expectations during his first season at Stamford Bridge.
Garnacho, who arrived in a deal worth around £40 million, made 43 appearances across competitions last season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists, but his overall impact was considered below expectations.
Reports indicate that Chelsea are now prepared to listen to offers for the 22-year-old, with clubs including Italian side Roma linked with a possible move for the winger. Chelsea are reportedly seeking a permanent transfer rather than a loan arrangement.
The other four players reportedly affected by Alonso’s decision are goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen, defenders Axel Disasi and Benoît Badiashile, and striker Liam Delap.
Alonso’s reported decision is part of Chelsea’s wider restructuring after a disappointing campaign that saw the club finish outside European qualification and go through another period of managerial uncertainty.
The Spaniard, who was officially appointed Chelsea manager after his successful spell at Bayer Leverkusen, has made it clear that he wants a squad built around hunger, discipline and a strong competitive mentality.
Speaking about his plans at Chelsea, Alonso stressed the importance of creating a team with the right attitude and standards, while working with the club’s sporting directors on squad decisions.
However, Alonso has not confirmed that all reported exits will happen, and some situations remain under discussion between the manager, players and Chelsea’s hierarchy.
On Garnacho specifically, Alonso confirmed that there is interest from other clubs and revealed that discussions had taken place with Chelsea’s sporting department regarding the winger’s future.
Chelsea are expected to continue making changes to the squad as Alonso prepares for his first full season in charge, with further arrivals and departures likely before the transfer window closes.
The reported clear-out signals Alonso’s intention to move away from previous squad-building strategies and create a team capable of competing at the highest level under his leadership.
Players reportedly allowed to leave by Xabi Alonso:
- Alejandro Garnacho — Winger
- Filip Jørgensen — Goalkeeper
- Axel Disasi — Defender
- Benoît Badiashile — Defender
- Liam Delap — Forward
