Infantino Congratulates Argentina After World Cup Final Defeat

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, has congratulated Argentina following the country’s defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, praising the team’s performance and professionalism throughout the tournament.

Argentina lost the final 1-0 to Spain after Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in extra time, denying the defending champions another World Cup title.

According to the Daily Mail, Infantino sent a letter to the President of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), highlighting the contributions of the Argentine team to what he described as an unforgettable football tournament.

In the letter, Infantino praised the Albiceleste for their impressive display and commended the players, coaching staff, medical team and supporters for their role in the team’s successful campaign.

“Dear Mr. President, Yesterday, Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the magnificent New York New Jersey Stadium, Argentina won the silver medal of the FIFA World Cup 2026, after an exciting final against Spain,” he wrote.

“I would like to reiterate my most sincere congratulations for this important new result for Argentine soccer.”

The FIFA president described the 2026 World Cup as a memorable celebration of football, noting that the tournament featured thrilling matches, emerging talents, established stars and passionate supporters across stadiums.

Infantino urged the Argentine FA president to extend his congratulations to Lionel Scaloni, the players, coaching crew, medical staff and supporters who stood behind the team throughout the tournament.

“These victories are always the fruit of constant work, professionalism and attention to detail, but also of passion, commitment and love for this wonderful sport,” he stated.
