Three-Storey Hotel Collapses in Abuja

A three-storey hotel building has collapsed on Abidjan Street, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, with emergency agencies launching a search and rescue operation for possible survivors.
The building reportedly collapsed at about 7:45 p.m., prompting the FCT Police Command to deploy operatives to the scene after receiving a distress call.
Preliminary findings by the police showed that the building had earlier been marked and sealed by the Department of Development Control in Abuja.
The rescue operation was led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, ACP Edward Akaniyene, and Area Commander, Metro, ACP Georgelyn Ufomadu, alongside other emergency responders.
Agencies involved in the operation include the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Fire Service (FFS), Department of State Services (DSS), Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and other relevant bodies.
Emergency workers immediately commenced a search of the rubble amid fears that people might be trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
The incident has raised concerns over how the building remained standing despite the earlier regulatory action against it.
As of press time, the police said no casualty had been confirmed, while rescue teams continued efforts to ascertain whether anyone was trapped.
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said further details on the extent of damage would be provided as the rescue operation progresses.
The police added that an investigation had commenced to determine the cause of the collapse and appealed to residents to stay away from the area and cooperate with emergency responders.
