APC Accuses ADC of Owing Workers 12 Months’ Salaries

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of owing its employees more than 12 months’ salaries, using the allegation to question the party’s capacity to manage Nigeria’s affairs if entrusted with power.

The council’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, levelled the accusation in a statement in which he faulted the ADC National Working Committee, led by Senator David Mark as National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, for allegedly neglecting workers who depend on their wages for daily sustenance.

Alake described the alleged non-payment of salaries as “wicked and reprehensible”, arguing that a political party that makes promises to Nigerians should first demonstrate its ability to fulfil its obligations to its own workforce.

“We find it unconscionable that a political party that has made many grandiose promises to hoodwink Nigerians owes its workers for more than 12 months.

“Owing staff who come to work every day and who rely on the salaries for their daily sustenance is wicked and reprehensible,” he said.

The APC campaign council spokesperson further questioned the credibility of the ADC leadership, insisting that the alleged failure to pay workers exposed what he characterised as a contradiction between the party’s public promises and its internal administration.

“We have clearly stated that ADC leaders and their presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, do not mean well and can do nothing for our country,” Alake maintained.

He also alleged that Atiku had a history of salary defaults, citing claims that employees of Gotel Communication and other businesses linked to the former Vice-President had previously endured months without pay and staged protests over unpaid salaries and other entitlements.

Alake extended his criticism to Aregbesola’s tenure as governor of Osun State, alleging that the administration struggled to meet its salary and pension obligations during his eight years in office.

He claimed that the state government resorted to paying workers quarter salaries and, at times, half salaries, while some pensioners allegedly went unpaid for more than four years.

“We are therefore not surprised that ADC, harbouring birds of the same feather, cannot pay its workers’ salaries,” he asserted.

Alake urged Nigerian voters and workers to reject the ADC, Atiku and all candidates contesting elections on the party’s platform, framing the alleged salary arrears as a test of the party’s capacity to administer public resources and protect workers’ welfare.

“We are sounding a warning to Nigerians and working people now: reject ADC. Reject Atiku Abubakar and reject all ADC candidates in the next general elections,” he declared.

He maintained that any political party seeking to govern the country should demonstrate responsible management of its internal affairs and fulfil its obligations to its workforce.
