Thousands of supporters of Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire on Saturday besieged his residence in Adabeji, Apata, Ibadan, for A Day with Bibire and APM Candidates, a high-profile political gathering that attracted considerable number of party chieftains, political stakeholders, community leaders, and an organic crowd of grassroots supporters.
Recall that the programme was conceived to strategize for the 2027 general elections, augment the grassroots appeal of the pro-people Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and bring its candidates face-to-face with the electorate ahead of the polls.
Although the event was scheduled for 11am, supporters had begun arriving as early as 7am, and by the time the programme was due to commence, the venue had been filled to capacity, with virtually every available seat occupied and the crowd spilling into adjoining spaces.
One of the defining moments of the gathering was the arrival of the APM governorship candidate in Oyo State, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, whose entrance occasioned wild jubilation across Adabeji as residents lined the streets and waved from adjoining buildings to welcome the former Commissioner for Finance.
Adekanmbi also received a rousing reception from the mammoth crowd of Bibire supporters, many of whom had waited for hours, singing solidarity songs and chanting in celebration of his arrival.
Addressing the large gathering, Adekanmbi assured the good people of Oyo State of purposeful governance, and pledged to sustain the developmental strides of Governor Seyi Makinde across the various sectors of the state.
Impressed by the overwhelming turnout, he charged the supporters to translate their numerical strength into electoral victory in 2027 by voting massively for all APM candidates, from top to bottom.
He also stressed the need for internal cohesion among party members, noting that unity and collective commitment would be crucial to building a formidable political force ahead of the elections.
Adekanmbi also commended the convener, Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire, for bringing about the event, and conveyed profound appreciation for his commitment to the success of all APM candidates.
Similarly, the APM senatorial candidate for Oyo South and incumbent member representing Ibadan North-West and South-West Federal Constituency, Hon. Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, popularly known as Odidi-Omo, assured supporters that outstanding commitments, particularly those relating to empowerment, would be fulfilled in no distant time.
In his remarks, the APM candidate for Ibadan South-West Constituency II in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Akinsete Olakunle, pledged to serve as the eyes, ears and voice of his constituents, promising to defend their interests and ensure that their concerns, aspirations and demands received adequate representation at the state legislature.
Speaking on the rationale behind the gathering, Bibire described the gathering as a practical response to the longstanding disconnect between the people and those seeking to govern them, explaining that the programme afforded residents the opportunity to interact directly with the candidates, assess their intentions, and gain a clearer understanding of their political agenda.
He added that such direct engagement would galvanize grassroots mobilization and consolidate the support base of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on the presidential aspiration of Governor Seyi Makinde, Bibire averred that the governor record in Oyo State, coupled with his ongoing developmental strides across critical sectors, attests to his capacity for national leadership and provides a compelling basis for his ambition to become the next President of Nigeria.
On Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, Bibire noted that Oyo State had turned its back on the scourge of poor governance in 2019 with the resounding mandate given to Governor Seyi Makinde and must not, in 2027, beat a retreat or allow the hard-won gains of the present administration to go up in smoke, hence his impassioned appeal to the electorate to throw their full weight behind the APM governorship candidate, whose emergence, he maintained, would consolidate the developmental strides already recorded and forestall any reversal of the dividends of good governance.
The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters, who described the APM candidates as tested and trusted, urged his supporters and residents of Adabeji to vote for the party across all elective positions, protect their votes and refuse to be intimidated during the electoral process.
A major highlight of the event was an empowerment exercise during which Bibire extended financial assistance and distributed other relief materials to more than 60 beneficiaries, in a move intended to ease their immediate economic challenges and support their livelihoods.
Several residents and supporters who displayed their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) also addressed the gathering, declaring their allegiance to the APM candidates and pledging to vote for the party in the January and February 2027 elections.
โWe are here to confirm where Bibire is leading us, and he has made his position clear, so we will follow his direction because he has always had our interests at heart, and now that he has declared his support for the APM from top to bottom, we will vote for the candidates and protect our votes in January and February,โ some of the supporters told newsmen.
Among the dignitaries in attendance, aside from the APM candidates, in no particular order, were Pa Ogunlade; Barrister Muyiwa Makinde; Hon. Dare Adeleke; Dr Yinka Adepoju; Chief Babatunde Tijani (Double T); Hon. Saheed Fijabi; Benedict Akika; ALGON Chairman, Hon. Sanda; Hon. Ademola Ige, popularly known as Ige Again; the Chairman of Ibadan South-West LG, Hon. Kehinde Akande; the Chairman of Ibadan North-West LG, Hon. Rahman Adepoju; the Chairman of Ogo Oluwa LG, Hon. Ojo Olรบwaแนฃeun; party chairmen from both local governments; councillors; and the APM chairmanship candidate for Ibadan Southwest Local Government in the 2026 LG election.
Also in attendance were members of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Hope Also Need Help Foundation, founded by Bibire; members of his 1984 Government College Ibadan (GCI) Old Boys Set; and a host of other political leaders, stakeholders, and prominent personalities.
