Bibire Is Coming: PDP Invites Bibire, Moves Toward Picking Rep Candidate for 2027

Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire has been invited by the Peoples Democratic Party to appear at the party’s state secretariat today at 12pm, as consultations continue ahead of the selection of a House of Representatives candidate for Ibadan Northwest and Ibadan Southwest Federal Constituency.

The invitation is coming at a time the party is intensifying moves to settle for its candidate across different constituencies in the state.

Though details of the meeting are yet to be made public, party insiders say it is part of ongoing efforts to arrive at a final decision on who flies the party’s ticket.

This expectation is coming on the heels of similar developments across the state, with reports indicating that candidates for various positions in other senatorial districts are already beginning to emerge, including Oyo North where decisions were said to have been concluded recently.

As of the time of filing this report, it remains unclear if other aspirants in the federal constituency have also been invited.

However, stakeholders insist that if the process is to produce a generally accepted candidate, all those involved in the race would be expected to be present for consent.

Bibire has in recent times been widely tipped by many party faithful and the general public as a leading figure in the race.

They continue to stress his strong grassroots appeal, widespread acceptance, and established presence across the 23 wards of the two local governments as important factors that distinguish him from others in the contest.

Built through years of engagement, his structure has made him a household name in communities across the federal constituency.

Some party leaders are said to be of the view that the party must avoid the risk of presenting a candidate without strong grassroots support, warning that such a move could affect the party’s chances in the general election.
