PDP Meeting on Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Reps Seat Ends Without Consensus Candidate as Supporters Rally for Bibire

The Peoples Democratic Party meeting held at the state secretariat today, Friday April 17, 2026, concluded without the emergence of a consensus candidate for the Ibadan Northwest Ibadan Southwest Federal Constituency.

The meeting, which had earlier generated strong expectations among party members, was part of ongoing consultations to decide who will fly the party’s ticket for the House of Representatives seat in the 2027 general election.

Polity Reporters confirmed that discussions were held extensively, but no final agreement was reached on any of the aspirants.

It was gathered that the process remains open, with further consultations expected among stakeholders before any decision is taken.

Despite the inconclusive outcome of the meeting, the atmosphere at the party secretariat was far from quiet as a large number of party faithful turned out in support of Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire.

Supporters were seen chanting slogans and singing his praises, creating a strong presence that drew attention within and around the venue.

The crowd, described by all and sundry as massive, occupied strategic areas around the secretariat in a show of solidarity.

Passers-by and motorists who witnessed the scene reacted to the display, with many nodding in agreement and describing Bibire as a true reflection of the people’s choice.

Within the party, Bibire’s name continues to feature prominently in ongoing discussions, with many pointing to his grassroots relations and consistent engagement across the constituency.

Some stakeholders who spoke with Polity Reporters after the conclusion of the meeting said that the party must be deliberate in its choice to ensure that the eventual candidate has the capacity to mobilize support and secure victory.
