BREAKING: Sanwo-Olu Backs Deputy Obafemi Hamzat as Successor for 2027

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as his choice to succeed him in the 2027 governorship race.
The endorsement came after a private meeting at Lagos House, Marina, where Hamzat announced his intention to run for governor in front of the State Executive Council members and key political figures.
The meeting saw the participation of influential figures, including members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, former Minister of State for Defence Musiliu Obanikoro, and Ganiyu Solomon.
Governor Sanwo-Olu told reporters after the meeting that the decision to endorse Hamzat was unanimous among the attendees.
He praised Hamzat for being well-prepared to take on the role, calling him a suitable candidate to lead the state.
“We just received Mr Deputy, who came with a very powerful delegation of our leaders in the state to inform us of his intention to contest. It was unanimous with all of us to say that Mr Deputy Governor is a man who is fit and well-prepared for this job,” Sanwo-Olu said.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized Hamzat’s familiarity with the workings of the state government, likening it to understanding “where all the rooms in the house are.”
The governor also thanked President Bola Tinubu, acknowledging his political guidance and the role he played in shaping both his and Hamzat’s political careers in Lagos.
This endorsement is seen as a key moment in the lead-up to the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State, which is considered Nigeria’s economic heart.
