APC Confirms Direct Primary Method for 2027 Presidential Election

The All Progressives Congress has confirmed it will conduct a direct primary election to determine its flagbearer for the 2027 presidential race.

The party stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other aspirants who purchased the APC nomination form will participate in the nationwide exercise.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, explained that results from all 774 local government areas will be collated and sent to the presidential primary election committee in Abuja on May 24.

He said the decision was approved by the APC National Working Committee in accordance with the party constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Under this direct primary system, every registered APC member across Nigeria’s 8,809 wards will have the right to vote for their preferred presidential candidate.

The party also disclosed the composition of the presidential primary and appeal committees.

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, has been appointed chairman of the presidential primary election committee.

Other members of the committee include former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Victor Ndoma-Egba, former Speaker Yakubu Dogara, and Idris Wada.

Former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, will lead the presidential primary appeal committee.

APC announced that governors and senior party officials across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory will serve as state coordinators and collation officers to oversee the primary exercise.

The presidential primary is scheduled for May 23 as part of the party’s broader preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The party had previously set the presidential nomination form fee at N100 million and waived screening requirements for Tinubu, citing his prior participation in the 2022 APC presidential primary.

Reports indicate that Edo businessman Osifo Stanley purchased the presidential nomination form shortly after Tinubu got his.
