Why I Chose Governor Makinde — Oyo Security Adviser, Bibire

The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters, Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire, has explained the reasons behind his decision to identify with Governor Seyi Makinde, saying his support was born out of conviction and not expediency.

Bibire made this known in a statement titled “Why I Chose GSM”, where he said he found in Governor Makinde a leader who means well for the people, keeps his word, and has remained committed to doing what is right for Oyo State.

According to the Governor’s Adviser, conviction was the first reason he chose Governor Makinde because he saw, long before he became Governor, a man who knew where he wanted to take Oyo State and has remained faithful to that direction despite the demands of public office.

He also described Governor Makinde as a leader who does not shy away from difficult decisions whenever the interest of the people is involved, saying leadership is best judged during challenging times and not when everything is going smoothly.

The renowned philanthropist stated that Governor Makinde’s concern for the welfare of the people further increased his trust in him, noting that every responsible government must first place the protection of lives at the centre of its policies before any meaningful development can take place.

Speaking on his experience as Special Adviser on Security Matters, he said he has personally witnessed the Governor’s commitment to security through regular engagements with security agencies, prompt attention to security reports, and sustained support for security operations across the State.

He added that while many people only see official functions and public engagements, they hardly see the meetings, consultations, and countless hours devoted to finding solutions to security challenges affecting the State.

Bibire recalled the abduction of students and teachers in Orire Local Government, saying one moment that remains fresh in his memory was Governor Makinde’s public declaration that he was ready to make whatever sacrifice was necessary to ensure their safe return.

He noted that the successful rescue of all the victims without loss of life further affirmed his belief in the Governor’s commitment to protecting the people of Oyo State.

The Special Adviser said those who are not directly involved in government may not always know the work that goes into security operations, saying that many important decisions are taken discreetly to achieve results without putting lives at risk.

He maintained that one of the qualities he admires most in Governor Makinde is the value he places on human life, stressing that the Governor gives personal attention to security matters whenever the safety of residents is threatened.

Bibire admitted that no leader is without shortcomings and no government can solve every problem at once, but maintained that every society deserves a great leader like Governor Makinde, whose concern for the people is proven through the steps taken to address their needs and challenges.

“I chose Governor Seyi Makinde because of conviction, because of his leadership, because of his genuine love for the people, and because I have seen his readiness to do everything within his power to protect the lives of the people,” he said partly.

He ended that if he were given another opportunity to make the same decision today, he would still choose Governor Seyi Makinde.
