2027: APM Accuses Tinubu Presidency Of Fearing Makinde’s Rising Popularity

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has accused the President Bola Tinubu administration of becoming unsettled by what it described as the growing popularity and national acceptance of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The opposition party made the claim in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, following comments credited to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Daniel Bwala, who had dismissed Makinde and the APM as insignificant in the 2027 presidential contest.
APM said the recent criticisms directed at Governor Makinde by individuals linked to the Presidency were signs that the administration was worried about his emergence as a possible challenger in the next election cycle.
The party alleged that rather than focusing on presenting its achievements to Nigerians, the Federal Government had resorted to attacking Makinde because of his growing influence and acceptance across the country.
According to APM, Governor Makinde would enter the 2027 presidential contest with what it described as an “impressive record” from his years governing Oyo State, arguing that his administration had attracted attention through economic programmes, infrastructure projects and governance reforms.
The party further claimed that Nigerians were interested in seeing Makinde replicate what it described as his achievements in Oyo State at the national level, including reforms in the economy, security, infrastructure and job creation.
APM also stated that the 2027 presidential election would provide Nigerians with an opportunity to choose a new direction for the country, while presenting Makinde as its preferred candidate for the contest.
The statement followed growing political discussions around the 2027 presidential election, with several political actors beginning to position themselves ahead of the contest.
