2027: APC Uploads 13 Guber Candidates, Moves To Resolve Internal Crises

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has uploaded the nomination details of 13 governorship candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) candidate nomination portal as the party races to beat the August 8 deadline for the submission of candidates’ information ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development comes as the ruling party intensifies preparations for the next election cycle while also working to resolve internal disagreements arising from some of its governorship primaries.

A senior APC source disclosed that the party’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department had successfully uploaded the details of 13 governorship candidates since the exercise began on July 18, while documents belonging to additional candidates were still being processed.

Among the candidates whose details have reportedly been uploaded are Lagos State deputy governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat; Ogun State candidate Solomon Adeola; Niger State Governor Umar Bago; Nasarawa State candidate Ahmed Wadada; Kwara State candidate Yakubu Danladi; Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia; Adamawa candidate Ahmed Galadima and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

The party expressed confidence that it would complete the uploading of nomination documents for all its 28 governorship candidates and their running mates before the INEC deadline.

However, APC officials disclosed that the uploading of candidates for State Houses of Assembly seats had yet to commence due to technical challenges affecting the INEC nomination portal. The party said its ICT team had already prepared the necessary documents and would proceed once the issues were resolved.

Beyond the technical process, the APC leadership is also dealing with disagreements that followed some of its governorship primaries, with the party’s reconciliation committee working to address grievances among members and unsuccessful aspirants.

The APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, said the party was confident that ongoing reconciliation efforts would bring aggrieved members together ahead of the elections.

He urged the party’s candidates to remain committed to APC’s policies and campaign on the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda, adding that elected candidates must focus on delivering democratic dividends to Nigerians.

The reconciliation efforts have reportedly extended to Oyo State, where the party is attempting to resolve disagreements surrounding the emergence of its governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli.

President Bola Tinubu was also reported to have met with some APC leaders from Oyo State, including Senator Alli and former governorship candidate Senator Teslim Folarin, as part of efforts to promote unity within the party ahead of 2027.

INEC’s timetable requires political parties to submit nomination details for governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates between July 18 and August 8, 2026, while personal particulars of the candidates are expected to be published later by the electoral commission.
