APC Reviews Campaign List

President Bola Tinubu and governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have begun moves to resolve the controversy surrounding the party’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council list after criticism trailed the composition of the council.

Tinubu held a closed door meeting with APC governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as part of ongoing consultations to review the list and address concerns raised by party stakeholders since its release.

The meeting followed growing reactions over the campaign council structure, with some party members questioning the inclusion of certain individuals and alleging that key sections of the party were not adequately consulted before the list was announced.

Sources within the party disclosed that the controversy forced the leadership to revisit the composition of the council, with possible adjustments expected before the final version receives presidential approval.

The initial list reportedly generated backlash after some party chieftains, including individuals facing corruption-related allegations, were included, prompting concerns among some members over the political implications of the appointments.

The APC leadership was also said to have deleted the earlier version of the list from its official social media platform while discussions continued on possible changes to the membership structure.

A party source quoted in reports said the review became necessary because some stakeholders felt they were not carried along in the preparation of the campaign council list, adding that the President is personally handling the matter.

The controversy comes as the APC begins preparations for the 2027 general election, where Tinubu is expected to seek a second term in office, with the party working to strengthen its campaign machinery ahead of the contest.

Under the proposed structure, Tinubu is expected to chair the Presidential Campaign Council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as vice chairmen, with Senator Abdulaziz Yari named as Director General and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma listed as secretary.

Aside the campaign council adjustments, the APC is also considering stronger emphasis on social intervention programmes and policies designed to address economic concerns among Nigerians ahead of the election season.
