Adelabu Seeks APC Peace
Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has stepped back from pursuing legal action over the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Oyo State, calling for a comprehensive reconciliation process to unite the party ahead of the 2027 election.
Adelabu, in a statement issued in Ibadan, said his decision not to challenge the primary outcome in court or through an internal party appeal was taken in the interest of peace, party stability and the future of the APC in Oyo State.
The former minister stressed that his decision was not because he lacked evidence, confidence or conviction about his concerns regarding the nomination process, but that his ambition to govern Oyo State was never a “do-or-die” affair.
Adelabu explained that the decision followed consultations with party leaders, loyalists and supporters across the 33 local government areas and 351 wards of the state, after which he resolved not to further escalate the matter through legal channels.
The APC governorship primary in Oyo State had generated controversy among some aspirants, with allegations of irregularities and concerns over the process that produced Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Adelabu said many party members who invested years, resources and political efforts into building the APC felt dissatisfied with the outcome of the nomination process, adding that their grievances should not be ignored.
He stated that concerns raised by party members extended beyond the governorship ticket to other elective positions, including senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly nominations.
The former minister also pointed to comments by APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, during his visit to Oyo State, where he acknowledged issues of “errors, unfairness and injustice” associated with aspects of the primary process.
However, Adelabu maintained that acknowledgement alone was not enough, urging the party leadership to follow up with corrective measures where possible to rebuild trust among members.
He called on the APC national leadership to take responsibility for genuine reconciliation, stressing that unity could not be achieved by simply appealing to aggrieved aspirants without addressing the concerns of party members.
Adelabu urged the party to engage members who feel disappointed or alienated through concrete actions that would restore confidence and strengthen the party structure ahead of the 2027 election.
He further stated that his desire to become governor remained driven by his commitment to contribute to the development of Oyo State, but added that political ambitions must remain subject to God’s timing.
The development comes as the APC continues efforts to resolve internal disagreements among stakeholders in Oyo State as it prepares for the 2027 electoral contest.
