Trump Supports Fuel Subsidy Restoration Plan — Atiku

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has said United States President Donald Trump supports his proposed plan to restore fuel subsidy if elected President of Nigeria in 2027.

Atiku made the statement in a release by his spokesman, Phrank Shaibu, titled “Atiku Boasts of Stakeholders, Trump Support on Fuel Subsidy.”

The former Vice-President said his proposed “Production Subsidy” policy would focus on supporting local refining, increasing supply, monitoring prices and ensuring Nigerians benefit from lower fuel costs.

“This is why my Production Subsidy is about putting money back into people’s pockets. Support what we produce and refine here, increase supply, monitor the price and make sure Nigerians feel the benefit at the pump,” the statement quoted Atiku as saying.

He argued that supporting domestic production was consistent with global economic practices, adding that the United States also supports strategic energy production.

Atiku criticised the Tinubu administration’s opposition to fuel subsidy relief for Nigerians, while accusing the government of granting incentives and concessions to multinational oil companies and businesses.

“So why does intervention suddenly become bad economics when ordinary Nigerians are meant to benefit?” he asked.
