Police Place Nationwide Formations on Red Alert Over Threat to Worship Centres, Schools

The Nigerian Police Force High Command has placed all formations nationwide on red alert following intelligence of planned terror attacks targeting worship centres, schools, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps and other public places.

According to reports, the alert followed fresh intelligence indicating increased mobilization of terrorist elements for possible coordinated attacks on vulnerable locations across the country.

The intelligence also reportedly indicated the movement of armed elements from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State.

In response, the Force High Command issued an operational order directing formations to check the suspected criminal elements before any attack could be carried out.

The order was contained in a police wireless message dated September 13, 2026, with reference number CB: 0900/FDPS/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL38/68, issued by the Nigeria Police Force Department of Operations (NIGPOL DOPS) in Abuja.

The message, marked “Security General” and tagged “Treat as Very Important”, was circulated to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police overseeing Zones 1 to 17, Mobile Police units, counter-terrorism and other specialised formations, as well as Commissioners of Police in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The document stated that intelligence available to the Department of Operations indicated heightened mobilization of terrorist elements targeting places of worship, learning institutions, NYSC orientation camps and other soft targets.

Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Force spokesperson, CSP Ani Iniedu, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
