Ekiti Launches “Operation Comb the Bush” to Tackle Crime

Security agencies in Ekiti State have initiated a joint operation, “Operation Comb the Bush,” aimed at enhancing security and curbing criminal activities across the state.
The operation, which began on Monday, involves personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), the military, and the Amotekun Corps.
The teams were deployed after a briefing at the Police Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, focusing on clearing suspected criminal hideouts, combing rural areas, and patrolling key hotspots.
According to Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Falade Adegoroye, the operation became necessary due to intelligence reports indicating that criminal groups displaced from neighboring states such as Kwara, Kogi, Ondo, Osun, and parts of northern Nigeria may try to move into Ekiti.
Adegoroye emphasized that the operation is designed to prevent crimes such as kidnappings, cattle rustling, vandalism, and attacks on public infrastructure.
The operation will also ensure that rural farming communities are secured, particularly as the rainy season begins, to allow farmers to return safely to their fields.
Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd), Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts by the state government to maintain peace and prevent criminal infiltration.
Officials assured the public that the operation would be carried out professionally and in line with human rights standards, with a focus on intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration.
