Shakira Reveals Why Burna Boy Was Her First Choice For World Cup Anthem

Colombian superstar Shakira has revealed that Nigerian Afrobeats singer Burna Boy was her preferred choice for the 2026 FIFA World Cup anthem, explaining that his powerful voice and unique musical style made him the perfect fit for the global football tournament.

Shakira said she wanted a male vocalist who could bring a strong and distinctive energy to the song, adding that Burna Boy’s deep voice and commanding presence matched the sound and emotion she envisioned for “Dai Dai,” the official World Cup song.

The Colombian singer explained that Burna Boy’s Afrobeats influence was another major reason behind her decision, noting that his sound represents a global movement that has connected African music with audiences around the world.

“Dai Dai” brings together two of the biggest names in international music, with Shakira’s Latin pop background blending with Burna Boy’s Afrofusion style to create a song designed for one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

The collaboration marks another World Cup milestone for Shakira, who previously performed the famous 2010 tournament song “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” one of the most recognised football anthems in history.
