Adeleke’s Win Not Setback for Tinubu — Kalu

Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has said Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the Osun State governorship election will not affect President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 presidential election.
Kalu, in a statement issued by his media office on Sunday, congratulated Adeleke on his re-election, describing the outcome of Saturday’s poll as a reflection of democracy.
He said the result should encourage the All Progressives Congress (APC) to strengthen its structures and reconnect with voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I join President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in congratulating Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as the Governor of Osun State. I also sympathise with the APC leadership, our party’s governorship candidate and all our supporters over the outcome of the election,” Kalu said.
Adeleke of the Accord Party defeated APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji in the closely contested election, which attracted attention ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kalu maintained that Tinubu’s prospects in Osun remained strong, urging APC leaders and supporters not to be discouraged by the result.
“What happened in Osun is democracy in play. Elections are about the choice of the people, and as a party, we should be able to come back stronger,” he said.
The senator urged the APC to review its strategies, strengthen grassroots mobilisation and deepen engagement with voters.
He also commended former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, for his contributions to the state.
Kalu insisted that the APC’s defeat in Osun should not be interpreted as a rejection of Tinubu ahead of 2027, saying the outcome provides an opportunity for the party to rebuild and improve its relationship with the people.
“The future of President Bola Tinubu in Osun State is very bright. The outcome of this election is not a setback for Mr President. Rather, it gives us another opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the people and work together for the success of Nigeria,” he added.
