Cameroon Win First WAFCON Title

Cameroon have won their first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title after defeating Malawi 3-0 in the 2026 final in Rabat, Morocco.
The Indomitable Lionesses sealed the historic victory with a dominant first-half performance, scoring all three goals before the break.
Marie Ngah Manga opened the scoring before Naomi Eto doubled Cameroon’s lead with a fine finish, while Ngah Manga completed her brace to put the game beyond Malawi’s reach.
Cameroon maintained their advantage in the second half to secure their first continental crown after several previous near misses.
The victory ends Cameroon’s wait for the trophy after finishing as runners-up three times in the competition, including a 1-0 defeat to Nigeria in the 2016 final.
Veteran forward Gabrielle Onguene, who featured in the 2016 final, came off the bench in stoppage time to make her eighth WAFCON appearance and celebrate the long-awaited triumph.
For Malawi, the final was their first appearance in the history of the tournament, but their impressive campaign ended with a defeat.
Cameroon’s success marks a new chapter in the history of African women’s football.
