Only Fagbenro-Bibire Can Defeat His Opponents Before 12PM on Election Day — IBNW/SW Youths Tell Gov. Makinde

A coalition of concerned youths in Ibadan Northwest and Southwest Federal Constituency has urged Governor Seyi Makinde to place due consideration on Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire as the Peoples Democratic Party flag-bearer, saying he has the political weight, electoral strength and wide acceptance to secure a landslide victory even before 12pm on election day.
The group, under the aegis of Concerned Ibadan Northwest and Southwest Federal Constituency Youths, made this known in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Akinwale Adeyemi, and Secretary, Ridwan Oladipo, where they stressed that Bibire remains the most credible choice before the party leadership.
Polity Reporters recalls that the process to select the party’s flag-bearer for the Oyo South Senatorial District and Ibadan Northwest and Southwest Federal Constituency is still ongoing, with Governor Seyi Makinde coordinating consultations among party stakeholders.
However, the youths, committed to the holistic development of the federal constituency, in a statement made available to Polity Reporters, said Bibire has shown strong competence over the years through a clear understanding of grassroots realities and unflinching engagement with masses across the 23 wards that constitute the sophisticated federal constituency.
“Bibire understands the people because he stays close to them at all times and listens to their concerns, and this has greatly enabled him to respond with timely support and interventions that address transport challenges, school needs, small business struggles, and other sundry issues faced by many residents,” they said.
They added that the antecedents associated with Bibire provide clear evidence of his readiness for public office, as his strong record of service and visible impact have been firmly established without occupying any government position.
“Many people across different communities can point to direct help they have received from Bibire through youth support programmes, community assistance, and personal interventions, which shows capacity and preparedness for greater responsibility,” they noted.
They further stated that Bibire’s altruistic nature has strengthened trust and loyalty among the people, in that, his name has become a household name across the horizontal and vertical lines of Ibadan Northwest and Southwest Federal Constituency.
They said, “Support has reached widows, traders, students, and artisans over the years without publicity, and this noiseless and humble way of giving has established unshakable trust, solid assurance, and sustained support among the people.”
The youths also amplified that the federal constituency remains a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party and maintaining that status quo requires a heavyweight candidate with substantial grassroots backing.
“This is not the time for the party to present a lightweight candidate when there is a heavyweight like Bibire who has been tested, proven, and trusted, and can secure an easy victory on election day.
“The truth is that the party needs someone with strong acceptance across wards and polling units, and Bibire already commands that level of support which can generate early victory on election day,” they affirmed.
They concluded by appealing to Governor Seyi Makinde to consider merit, electability, loyalty, and wide acceptance by the people, most especially at the grassroots level, in making his decision for the good of the party and the federal constituency.
“We are convinced that choosing Bibire at this critical time will preserve the party’s dominance in the federal constituency, solidify unity among members, and provide the kind of representation that keeps the interests of the people at the centre of every decision,” they ended.
