Aisha Yesufu Advocates for United Opposition After Exiting FCT Senate Race

Activist and Peter Obi ally, Aisha Yesufu, has urged the formation of a unified opposition following her withdrawal from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Yesufu’s exit ends her brief campaign for the 2027 senatorial seat, which she launched on May 6 after moving from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC.
Her decision comes amid signs of internal party shifts over the FCT ticket, with reports indicating that the NDC may have favored another candidate.
Even after stepping down, Yesufu has continued to engage with constituents across all six FCT area councils—Kwali, Abaji, Gwagwalada, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari, and Kuje.
During these visits, she met with party officials, supporters, stakeholders, and residents in what she called an appreciation tour to thank them for their support throughout her political endeavor.
In her remarks, Yesufu expressed heartfelt gratitude to her supporters, emphasizing that their encouragement remained vital despite her withdrawal from the race.
She also highlighted that stepping down does not lessen her dedication to political engagement and accountability, stressing that the collective pursuit of good governance should remain a shared priority.
