Cooking Gas Prices Drop Across Nigeria as Supply Improves, Depot Costs Fall

Prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, have begun to ease across Nigeria following improved supply levels and a decline in depot prices, offering some relief to households already struggling with high living costs.

Recent market checks and industry updates indicate that the reduction is being driven by better product availability, increased domestic supply flow, and improved distribution efficiency across major depots in the country.

Data from the Nigerian gas sector shows that LPG supply availability has increased significantly in recent weeks, rising from about 11 days of sufficiency to 22 days, while average daily supply has also improved from about 4,262 metric tonnes in May 2026 to 5,040 metric tonnes in June 2026.

Industry stakeholders say this rise in supply has helped stabilise depot prices, which in turn is gradually reflecting in lower retail prices for consumers in some parts of the country.

Reports indicate that cooking gas, which previously sold as high as around ₦2,000 to ₦2,200 per kilogram in several locations, has started dropping to about ₦1,500 per kilogram in some markets where supply has improved.

Marketers attribute the easing trend to reduced supply pressure, improved loading at depots, and better product circulation, especially in urban centres where shortages had previously driven up prices.

However, industry operators caution that the price reduction remains uneven across the country, as some areas are still experiencing higher prices due to transportation costs, distribution bottlenecks, and regional supply gaps.

Energy analysts also note that while domestic production has improved, sustained price stability will depend on consistent supply from refineries and gas processing facilities, as well as efficient logistics across the downstream sector.

There are also ongoing government-backed efforts to strengthen LPG infrastructure, including pipeline projects and gas processing investments aimed at reducing dependence on imports and improving nationwide availability.

Despite the recent relief, households are still advised to expect some price fluctuations in the short term as the market continues to adjust to changing supply conditions and demand patterns.
