Tinubu Appoints Fayose to Lead REA Board

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), alongside 25 other Nigerians appointed into boards and management positions of federal agencies.

The appointments, which take immediate effect, were announced in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday.

Fayose, who served as Ekiti State Governor between 2014 and 2018 and previously held the same office from 2003 to 2006, will head the REA board as chairman, with Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta appointed as members and non executive directors.

The board will also include the current Managing Director of the agency, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, alongside three executive directors who had earlier been appointed to oversee key operations of the organisation.

The REA is responsible for implementing policies and projects aimed at expanding electricity access to rural communities across Nigeria, particularly through renewable and off grid energy solutions.

Fayose’s appointment comes amid the Federal Government’s renewed push to improve electricity access and strengthen the management of critical agencies under the power sector.

Among other appointments approved by President Tinubu, retired Major General Junaid Bindawa was named Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, while several other individuals were appointed into different federal commissions and agencies.

The Presidency said the appointments were part of efforts to strengthen leadership structures in government institutions and bring in individuals with relevant experience to support the administration’s development agenda.

Fayose, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has remained an influential figure in Nigerian politics since leaving office as Ekiti governor and has occasionally engaged with national political issues.
