Wike Camp Takes Over Oyo PDP Secretariat

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced the takeover of the party’s state secretariat located at Molete, Ibadan, citing a recent Supreme Court judgment as the basis for the move.

The development occurred when the campaign organization of the PDP governorship candidate in Oyo State, Hazeem Gbolarumi, alongside party leaders from the Wike aligned faction, visited the old PDP secretariat and declared that activities of the party would henceforth be coordinated from the facility.

The state PDP chairman of the faction, Professor Rahman Akinoso, said the action followed what he described as the Supreme Court’s recognition of his leadership structure, insisting that the judgment established that there was only one legally recognised PDP in the country.

Akinoso said security agencies had been informed about the development, adding that the party would resume administrative operations from the Molete secretariat as part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The faction described the move as the return of the “authentic PDP” to its political base in Oyo State, claiming that the secretariat had previously been controlled by loyalists of Governor Seyi Makinde.

The group alleged that the takeover was not merely about recovering a party facility but about reclaiming the structure and identity of the PDP in the state ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The development comes amid a deepening internal crisis within the PDP in Oyo State following political realignments involving Governor Makinde and other party stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Molete secretariat had historically served as the operational headquarters of the PDP in the state before Governor Makinde’s administration built a new party secretariat along the Oke Ado axis of Ibadan.

The Wike aligned faction said it would begin grassroots mobilization across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State, adding that its political structures had been activated for the forthcoming election cycle.

However, the move is expected to further intensify the battle for control of the PDP structure in Oyo State as rival camps continue to interpret recent legal and political developments differently.
