SA Security, Bibire, Praises Gov Makinde Over Surveillance Aircraft, Says Investment Will Shore Up Oyo’s Security Architecture

The Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor on Security Matters, Mr Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire, has praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his administration’s continued investment in security, particularly the procurement of surveillance aircraft to improve security monitoring and operations across the state.

Bibire stated this today, Wednesday, while delivering a goodwill message on behalf of Governor Makinde at a one day seminar organized by the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, on building resilient schools and improving operational capacity for safety, security and child protection in educational institutions across the state.

The Special Adviser, who was represented at the event by the Head of Operations of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund, Mr Akin Oyedele, said the Governor’s decision to invest heavily in security logistics and modern surveillance equipment showed that the administration is leaving no stone unturned in its determination to protect lives and property across the state.

He said the procurement of the surveillance aircraft would further shore up the state’s security architecture by providing better aerial monitoring, covering hard-to-reach areas and supporting security agencies in responding more effectively to emerging threats.

The retired US Navy veteran said the safety of children and the protection of schools remain a priority for Governor Seyi Makinde, who has been taking deliberate steps to ensure that schools do not become sitting ducks for criminal elements seeking to disrupt education and plunge parents, teachers and students into fear.

He equally urged school administrators to see themselves as the first line of defence by working closely with security agencies and community leaders and reporting suspicious movements or activities without delay, noting that a stitch in time saves nine and early information will speedily prevent bigger security challenges.

The Special Adviser also called for robust collaboration amongst security agencies, schools, parents, communities and other stakeholders, saying that securing schools is a collective responsibility and that everyone must be ready to do their part to keep danger at bay.

He further urged residents to make use of the state’s emergency toll free line, 615, to report incidents ranging from crime and criminality to medical emergencies, fire outbreaks, domestic violence and child abuse, assuring that operators at the state’s Security Command and Control Centre work round the clock to receive calls and link callers with the appropriate emergency responders.

He said the 615 emergency line is toll free and encouraged residents to speak up without delay whenever they notice anything suspicious, affirming that timely information saves lives and helps nip security threats in the bud.

The seminar, which was held at the Local Government Hall, Secretariat, Ibadan, brought together security agencies, education officials, school proprietors, principals, teachers, parents and other stakeholders to discuss practical measures for making schools safer and protecting children across Oyo State.

Bibire concluded by reaffirming the commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde to protecting lives and property across Oyo State, assuring residents that the administration would continue to provide the necessary support, logistics and policy direction to keep the state safe and ensure that children can attend school and return home safely.
