Oyo Receives N7.7bn Surveillance Aircraft to Boost Security Operations

The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of two security surveillance aircraft acquired to strengthen intelligence gathering, aerial monitoring and security operations across the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the aircraft had arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, more than a year after the state announced their procurement.

The state government had on July 9, 2025, announced the purchase of the two aircraft at a cost of N7.76 billion, describing the acquisition as part of efforts to improve security response and support existing security formations in the state.

Oyelade had earlier stated that the aircraft would complement the operations of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, and other security agencies in tackling criminal activities.

“The two aircraft already procured cost N7,763,360,000 and will effectively back up Amotekun and other security forces in the state to prevent and destroy bandits in their hideouts,” Oyelade said.

He explained that the aircraft, which are DA 42 MNG models, were designed for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations and equipped with advanced surveillance technology capable of identifying targets from both high and low altitudes.

In the latest statement, the commissioner said the arrival of the aircraft marked another milestone in the state government’s efforts to strengthen security architecture through improved aerial surveillance and intelligence gathering.

“The arrival of the aircraft marks another step in the state’s efforts to strengthen security operations through improved intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance,” the statement read.

Oyelade added that the aircraft would support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps and other relevant formations, by improving their ability to monitor criminal activities and respond swiftly to security threats across Oyo State and neighbouring areas.
