Melaye Warns Tinubu, Recalls Abacha’s Failed Transition Bid

Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has warned President Bola Tinubu against ignoring what he described as the influence of divine intervention in political affairs, using the late military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, as an example ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Melaye, who is a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the statement in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, where he suggested that political calculations alone do not determine outcomes.
The former lawmaker recalled that Abacha had received support from all five political parties that existed during his administration as part of plans to transform from military ruler to a civilian president, but the move was halted by his sudden death in 1998.
“There is a God factor in the affairs of men. Tinubu does not understand this. Abacha was endorsed by all the 5 political parties at that time,” Melaye wrote.
He added, “There was no contest, he was already cruising to become a civilian president. God picked His phone and called Abacha.
“When God calls you, there is no network failure. That God has not gone on omugo, Tinubu watch it.”
Melaye’s comment comes amid growing political activities and preparations by major political parties ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition figures intensifying criticism of the Tinubu administration.
The ADC chieftain urged the President to remain mindful of forces beyond political strategies, drawing attention to the unexpected events that have defined Nigeria’s political history.
